Anthrakia, Greek for "a fire of burning charcoal," is used twice in John's Gospel: first, to describe the fire, where Peter warmed his hands and denied knowing Jesus three times(18.18); second, to describe the burning coals our Risen Lord lit to prepare breakfast for his disciples by the Sea of Tiberias (21.9). Each month Christianity Today includes a page of quotations, "Reflections." This month the page includes a short poem by Esther Popel titled "October Prayer." It goes like this:
